After studying at the École Estienne to become a lithographer, Robert Couturier interrupted his training before meeting Aristide Maillol in 1928, who became his mentor and encouraged him to embrace sculpture.

A recognized teacher
After the Second World War, Couturier became a professor at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1946, then at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts (1963-1975). His influence extends beyond his personal work, thanks to his role as an educator of new generations.
A celebrated heritage
A founding member of the Salon de Mai and recipient of the Prix Wildenstein in 1966, Couturier leaves behind a rich artistic heritage. His works, in prestigious collections in Paris, Madrid and Rio de Janeiro, testify to his place among the great names in French sculpture.
