Daniel Buren est une figure majeure de l’art contemporain international. Reconnu pour ses œuvres in situ, il conçoit ses créations en interaction avec les lieux qu’elles investissent. From the 1960s onwards, Daniel Buren adopted a minimalist approach, reducing painting to its “zero degree”. By co-founding the BMPT group, he rejects academic conventions to highlight the importance of the exhibition space. His works transform the spaces they inhabit, whether museums or public spaces.

Emblematic achievements
Among his landmark creations, Les Deux Plateaux (1986), better known as the “columns of Buren”, in the main courtyard of the Palais Royal in Paris, illustrate his interactive approach. He has also left his mark on prestigious venues such as the Grand Palais in Paris (Monumenta, 2012), the Guggenheim Museum in New York, and public spaces in Naples, Seoul and Malaga.
