An international career

A graduate of the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, Tadashi Kawamata made his mark in 1982 at the Venice Biennale and in 1987 at documenta 8 in Kassel. He then marked sites in France, such as the Chapelle Saint-Louis de la Salpêtrière and the Centre de création contemporaine in Tours, while exhibiting worldwide.

Recycled materials and spatial considerations

Working with salvaged materials (boards, chairs), Kawamata creates installations that reinterpret places, playing with light and air. His work explores the memory of spaces and the dialogue between nature and culture.
