Jean-Pierre Raynaud

Jean-Pierre Raynaud is a French visual artist known for his work with symbols and everyday materials. With a degree in horticulture, he began his artistic career in the 1960s with iconic works using cement-filled flower pots, road signs and the white tiles with black grout that have become his signature.

After a remarkable debut at the Salon de la jeune sculpture in 1964, he held numerous solo exhibitions, notably in Paris, New York and São Paulo. His career quickly became international, making him a major figure in contemporary art.

Raynaud carries out prestigious commissions, such as the stained-glass windows at Noirlac Abbey and the Carte du Ciel at La Défense. He also invests in symbolic places, notably with the Cuban Flag in Havana or his performance in North Korea in 2006, mixing art and geopolitics.
